ABOUT ME, ERIC RATCLIFFE

ABOUT ME, ERIC RATCLIFFE

Eric Ratcliffe, Eric's Military Tours

I have lived in Norfolk (England) for over 50 years. As a private pilot, I have flown around most of Norfolk and have had the privilege of taking off and landing at many of the old British and US Military Airfields used by the allies during WW2.

Personal interest in aviation and history has led me to take a deep interest in the whole area of East Anglia and the air war, as well as the D-Day landings on Normandy beaches in France and other battle sites across Europe.

MY TOUR GUIDE EXPERIENCE...

I started as a volunteer guide for the 8th Airforce association, escorting the veterans on their return to their old bases, before starting to work part time for other tour companies as an accredited guide. Now, I plan and execute my own guided tours of iconic WW2 locations and battlefields, as well as carrying out tours for In the Footsteps.

The bulk of my recent tours have mainly focused on the invasion beaches of Normandy or the various old airfields based across southern-eastern England. Another specialty of mine is the recently added Dambuster tour, covering the brave allied ‘bouncing bomb’ attacks on the Dams of the Ruhr Valley in Germany. More information on each of these tours can be found on the Tours page.

While these are the primary tour packages I offer, I have experience leading tours of a range of iconic WW2 battle locations across Europe. If there is anywhere you would like to visit, please discuss a possible tour with me via email, by filling out the form on  the Contact page.

AS YOUR TOUR GUIDE...

It’s my duty to ensure you have a wonderful, memorable experience. I’ll provide deep insight throughout, enabling you to really get a feel for the battles that took place some 75 years ago.

Through experience, I’ve discovered some remarkable, less frequented locations that will keep you away from popular tourist routes if that is your preference. The beaches of Normandy can be quite busy in the summer time!

Lastly and most importantly, I understand (and will not forget) that this is your holiday. Your safety and satisfaction will always be at the forefront of my priorities, and each trip will be tailored to your personal wishes. Testimonials from past tour participants can be found on the Feedback page.
